Welcome to primary! Following La Sierra’s mission of high academic excellence founded on strong values, the primary division of the school follows the American Education Reaches Out (AERO) curriculum. This curriculum is based on the United States’ Common Core and emphasizes international awareness through enriched standards. Along with AERO, instruction incorporates the six pillars of Character Counts: responsibility, respect, trustworthiness, fairness, citizenship and caring. The integration of a solid international curriculum and strong character formation sets the stage for project-based activities. Units of learning are created and executed with interdisciplinary modules. Students learn in an active and relevant manner, applying knowledge and skills to a variety of interrelated subjects. Classes are taught in various modalities, based on the needs of the students. Whole group instruction, station rotations and workshops provide a variety of opportunities for learners to show their knowledge and skills. Through daily formative assessment, teachers evaluate the effectiveness of instruction and continually reinforce the students’ learning experience.
